Aude Signoles

Lecturer

Aude Signoles is a lecturer at Sciences Po Aix since 2012. She is associated with the Mesopolhis social science laboratory (UMR 7064).

She has conducted long-term fieldwork in the Middle East and lived there for more than ten years (Palestine, Jordan, Egypt, Lebanon, Turkey) in the years 1990-2000.

Aude Signoles started her practice at theUniversity of La Réunion in 2004, then at theUniversity of Galatasaray in Istanbul, Turkey. Her early research focused on city government and local elites in the Arab world, as well as on state and territorial reform, starting with the Palestinian case. In this context, she was interested in (local) water management and sustainable development policies.

She has carried out numerous expert reports on decentralisation in Palestine on behalf of French NGOs and public institutions. For example, in 2019, she collaborated on a study – commissioned by the municipality of Lille – on a project to transform an industrial site into a cultural hub implemented in the partner city of Nablus (Palestine). In 2018, she also led a collective research on French Islamic solidarity associations and closely follows issues related to Islam and secularism in France, in the postcolonial context.

Her current work focuses on memorial issues related to the Algerian War in France and questions ofcitizenship education in schools.
